On November 7th Venus begins her yearly trek through Scorpio. The Goddess of Love will be in the sign of the Scorpion until December 1st.
Venus is the planet we associate with beauty and grace, and she is traditionally thought of as having a hard time in the gritty and frank sign of Scorpio - especially as she is leaving mannered and proper Libra. Imagine a high society woman in a ball gown suddenly needing to go into a raunchy dive bar, or perhaps chase her ring down a sewer.
Yet that's only one way to look at it. Venus is indeed a planet that likes things to be nice, and that is the last of Scorpio's concerns. Yet when Venus is in Mars' second sign she may get a little goth, and find she likes it. There's a dark side of love and relationship (as you know), as well as kinky, intense, and brutally honest sides. It's time for us to take a look at them.
Jupiter, Venus' great friend in the planetary club, is already in the sign. At least they can commiserate, but very likely they'll find plenty to like about the next three weeks. Keep an eye out on the weekend of the 11th through the 13th for an indication of how it will play out.
But enough about Venus - she'll manage fine, as she does every year. What about us? How will we feel the energy of Venus in Scorpio?
For one thing, it's time to be brutally honest in relationships. Say what you feel, as well as what you think. Scorpio has an all-or-nothing sort of character, and we often feel the need to go deep or go away. While Venus is good at saying the right thing to smooth and soothe the rough spots, in Scorpio it's better to speak the truth (as you see it).
Of course, not everyone will be inclined towards such openness, and we may see our fair share of power plays over the next few weeks. Scorpio can be downright sneaky at times, and there's a tendency towards suspicion that isn't always unjustified. At worst, jealousy and even paranoia can creep in. With Neptune very active at the end of November, we may feel very uncertain and could give in to illusions and delusions.
We'll need to be both tough enough to be honest, and soft enough to be vulnerable. Ultimately, we can't really go deep and connect at a soul level if we aren't willing to open up and show our vulnerabilities. Scorpions are tough on the outside, but very tender within.
That leads us to the tail end of the Scorpion - the stinger. If you open up and share something about yourself with another, on the emotional, sexual, or even spiritual plane and it isn't honored and respected, there may be a tendency to sting. Scorpio can retaliate with a cutting remark, a sarcastic comment, or even a demeaning look.
We'll have to avoid the tendency to be overprotective, even as we try to open up to our partners and potential partners. It's a slightly dangerous time - like holding a scorpion in the palm of your hand - and some of us will get stung. But the reward for our efforts is the potential to have deeper and more meaningful connections.
