This year, Venus comes back to her first home of Taurus from 31 March to 24 April. Typically, the goddess would like to kick off her shoes and curl up on the couch (or in bed) for three weeks of relaxed pleasure. For us mortals, that would mean a time when we could focus on the more sensual aspects of life – good food, good song, and good sex.
Alas, if Venus was planning a ‘staycation’, she’s sure to be disappointed. If you’ve ever had some time off from work only to have colleagues ringing your phone off the hook and filling your inbox, you can sympathize with Venus this year. She’s going to be busy – and that means that we will be, too.
We won’t entirely miss out on relaxed enjoyment, of course. But we’re going to have to do some work on our relationships – the ones we have, the ones we’ve lost, and the ones we want. A theme for Venus' stay in the sign of the bull this year is commitment. What can you - do you want to - commit to?
The announcement that relationships are going to be prominent comes on Venus’ first day at home, 31 March, as the full moon is in relationship-oriented Libra. With the Sun in independent Aries (and Uranus stoking up the more individualistic aspects of that sign), we’re going to find it hard to contain ourselves in partnerships that feel limiting.
A Venusian trine to Saturn on 7th April suggests a hopeful note that we can build in our relationships. It could be time to take the next step forward, although some folks will also see this as a release point. Either way, it’s a serious but not dour time, when we take a practical approach to partnership.
There’s a very different mood a few days later, around the 10th to the 12th of April, as Venus and Mars connect to create passion, while Neptune helps out by casting a romantic soft focus on things. A Sun/Pluto square could deepen the passion, although it might also stoke up power and control issues like jealousy.
On the 17th of April, Venus aspects both Jupiter and Pluto. Again, power struggles could emerge, yet there is also great potential for deepening passion and intimacy. For some, the question of having children may come up at this time. Whatever the specific content that emerges in mid-April, it is likely to reflect the underlying theme of commitment.
Commitment is also signaled by the stations of Saturn and Pluto on the 17th and 22nd. In general, the second half of April is very charged, and we may find that we have to put relationships on hold as we deal with other matters. It could also be that we feel the pressures of the world pushing in on us, and that makes us value our connections to others, and the love we feel, all the more.
