Mars changing into this airy sign takes place amidst Uranus moving into Taurus and the New Moon in Taurus. Mars continues to square Uranus until the end of the month, when it finally moves out of orb of the square. Hence the flavor of this transit is very Uranian.
In terms of relationships, the focus of our drive and desire nature is very much on equality. Relationships which are not based on this, are likely to require radical change during this time. We are also likely to find ourselves paying more attention to our friendships and group connections – who are my ‘friends’? What do they mean to me? Why are we connected? Who is my ‘tribe’?
In romantic relationships, we are likely to explore what we truly have in common intellectually, as well as on other levels. Is there a foundation of friendship? Do we have similar ideals?
This is a very idealistic, progressive, detached energy that has high expectations in all relationships. Unlike the potential conservatism of Mars in Capricorn, Mars in Aquarius encourages us to challenge anything that is limited and staid and to experiment in all aspects of our desire nature. Hence, both personally and collectively, stereotypes to do with gender and sexuality are likely to be challenged a lot more in the months to come. There are already 71 gender options on Facebook. Our whole perception of gender is undergoing radical change, particularly with help from the Queer movement.
As this transit goes on for a while, we are going to have a long time to explore these issues. Mars goes retrograde towards the end of June and back into Capricorn mid-August until mid-September, finally leaving Aquarius in mid-November. Whilst travelling back through the last degrees of Capricorn, we will get an opportunity to review and apply some changes to our existing relationship structures.
This energy is fast moving and intellectually inspiring. All it requires is for us to keep our minds and hearts open. MG
