The Goddess of Love takes a turn for the goth when she enters Scorpio on September 9th. In the dark waters of the scorpion, Venus demands stark honesty, deep bonding, and unwavering commitment. If any of these are frustrated, she can infuse our relationships with power struggles, possessiveness, and jealousy. With Venus in Scorpio, we feel that it’s all-or-none, and we don’t have much time to choose.
Yet even as Venus wades into the deep and still waters, she is preparing to back out again. She entered the shadow of her retrograde on September 3rd, so that all that happens in the coming weeks and months is likely to be redone at least once before the end of the year. In fact, for all the excitement and energy of the next few weeks, it will be early December before we really know what’s happened.
Because Venus will be moving around quite a bit over the next few months, this post will only take us up to her station to retrograde on October 5th.
Venus’ first order of business will be an opposition to Uranus on September 12th. This is likely to be a rather tense aspect, as Uranus demands freedom, and in the sensual sign of Taurus that could mean having space for sexual exploration. Venus in Scorpio can be sexual, but is likely to demand some rather strict boundaries – exploration is not on Venus’ agenda in this sign. If not specifically sexual, the focus is still likely to be on freedom versus commitment.
Pay attention to what comes up around this time, as things will likely be revisited in the latter part of October, but probably not finally resolved until the end of November.
Venus’ station to retrograde is on October 5th. We’ll have more to say about this in a future blog post, but we are entering a period where we’re likely to reconsider and reevaluate our relationship priorities - and yes, that makes it a perfect time for an astrological relationship consultation.
For those with long memories, this retrograde could resonate with the one in October and November of 2010. Look back to what was going on in your relationship life around that time (an email trail could help), and see how your current situation presents the same themes – although hopefully at a different level.
There are challenges ahead for us with Venus in Scorpio. On the one hand, we’re asked to commit to a decision on a person or a relationship, yet on the other hand we’re encouraged to keep an open mind and withhold final judgment for a while. There’s a great deal of uncertainty built into this time, but for most of us the one certain thing is that it won’t be an especially quiet period in relationship.
