In recent posts, I’ve written about the various techniques of relationship astrology - what they are, how we use them, and what information they can offer. Today, I’d like to take a look at why we do relationship astrology.Read More
Last week, I wrote about synastry, “bringing the stars together”, or - more simply - comparing two people’s charts to see where opportunities and challenges may be found. Today, I want to briefly outline another technique we use in relationship astrology, the composite chart.Read More
In previous blog posts, I’ve been writing about the cast of characters within each of us, and their competing needs, wants, and modes of operation. It’s a complex situation, as heart and head, gut and genitals all voice their opinions - on some days, our internal cacophony sounds like Parliament before an important vote.
And that’s all going on within each of us. When we start to consider how the Sun, Moon, Venus, and Mars of one person interact with those of another, things get much more complex (and yes, the other planets do matter, even if I haven’t written about them yet).
Let’s take a look at the Venus of two people. One has the Goddess of Love in outgoing, fiery Leo - looking for drama and fun, ready to be swept away by a grand romantic gesture, while also making sure that everything is coming from the heart. The other person may have Venus in Capricorn, where a more reserved, even traditional approach to relationship dominates. The Venus in Leo person wants things to move quickly and wants to feel excitement, while the Venus in Capricorn person could want to take things more slowly, building the relationship step by step.
We can also compare different planets. One person has Mars in Sagittarius, and is always ready to voice an opinion and stir up a little controversy (not that all Mars-in-Sags would act that way, but it’s a possibility). The hot assertiveness of Mars could be enticing to a Moon in Aries that loves competition and getting things started, but a real challenge to a sensitive, empathic Moon in Pisces.
The complex interaction of two charts is called synastry in astrology (syn, meaning together, and astry, stars. While some combinations can be challenging, it’s rarely the case that two charts - two people, that is - can’t work things out if enough awareness is brought to the situation.
There’s a fine line between consideration for the other - particularly your partner - and recognition of your own wants and needs. It’s a delicate balance that is perhaps best handled by the careful scales of Libra, yet we need to approach it with the warrior energy of Mars.Read More
In the past few blog posts, I’ve been talking about our many conflicting needs in relationship. Yesterday, I described how our relating function - symbolized by Venus - can challenge our sense of self and life purpose, indicated by the Sun.Read More
In yesterday’s blog, I wrote about the competing voices we often feel when we consider our wants and needs in relationship. Today I want to get a little more specific, and talk about the function of the planet Venus.Read More
You can read that a few ways. It might be something you ask someone who you’re not too happy to see. It might be something you ask your partner. Or it might be something you ask yourself.
We often wish for a happy relationship without really considering what we mean by the term. Just what is a ‘happy relationship’ for you? There are layers of experience and conditioning - from family, society, religion - that can shape your image of relationship. But is that image what you really want?Read More
Making the most of Eclipses in Relationships!
So it’s a New Moon and we want change to happen NOW! But it’s an eclipse so we are in the dark as to what’s really going on!Read More
And so the countdown begins to release deep in our psyche whatever didn’t work for us in 2018, both within ourselves and in our relationships. We are more likely to have grieved our losses on Saturday, so now we have more space to leap into a new year with the hearty, hopeful and playful enthusiasm of a child.Read More
In last week’s blog, I wrote about the ‘other’ relationships that astrologers work with in addition to personal and romantic connections, but I saved one of the most common and important forms of partnership for today.
Creative and business partnerships can often be treated almost the same way as personal relationships. In fact the lines can be quite blurry, as there is often a very strong personal component involved. All of the techniques that we would use in any other relationship consultation can be applied, from basic synastry (comparing birth charts) to relocating the composite chart (a blend of the two charts, moved to the locale of the business).Read More
t isn’t always.
As relationship astrologers, it’s true that the majority of our work is with relationships that are romantic in nature: spouses, lovers, and such. A majority, but not an overwhelming majority or even a large majority.
I thought that in today’s blog we’d take a look at some of the other types of relationships we see in our work.Read More
This past weekend, Venus returned to Scorpio. The Goddess of Love passes through the sign every year, but this year she’s spending a little extra time due to her retrograde. She initially entered on September 9th, then retrograded back into Libra on November 1st. Venus will remain in Scorpio until January 7th.Read More
No more sitting on the fence in relationships! Newness is key as a Promethian bolt, or jolt of enlightenment, wakes up our self-worth and relationship dynamics!Read More
Just how do we approach the astrology of relationships? There are a number of techniques that we use, and each of them has many variations. Two of the basic building blocks are synastry and the composite chart.
Synastry (literally, ‘to bring the stars together’) is a time-honored technique of chart comparison in which we see how one person’s chart impacts the other person’s. Through synastry, we get a sense of how two people dynamically interact with each other. Does your Sun charge up my Venus? Does my Mars irritate your Moon?Read More
Moving into the last sign of the Zodiac, Mars is completing its cycle through all 12 signs. On the one hand we can all potentially benefit from the wisdom accumulated by the warrior planet through the previous signs. On the other hand, the focus of Mars in watery Pisces often feels like it’s more on the realms beyond, than on the earthy mundane realities. This can easily result in one or more of the following in the arena of relationships:Read More
This is quite a shift in energy from the more introspective Jupiter in Scorpio, whose key tasks included unearthing our unconscious desires, fears, passions and issues of power. Whereas with Jupiter in Scorpio, the expansion involved a depth journey down into Hades realm, Jupiter in Sagittarius takes us up into the sky realms of travel, knowledge, belief systems, possibilities…Very much at home in its own sign, Jupiter in fiery Sagittarius is more about size and possibilities, than detail and truth.Read More
As we wait in darkness for the New Moon in Scorpio tomorrow, there are two major changes in the sky today, that will impact each of us individually and in our relationships, for some months to come.
The first is Uranus slipping back into Aries for the last time for most of us in our lifetime. It remains in the last two degrees of Aries until March 6th 2019. It was previously in this same spot between June 28th – Sept 8th 2017 and April 11th and May 16th 2018. This last visit by Uranus to those degrees is likely to bring to a culmination whatever started during those previous two times.
With the North Node of the Moon at the very first degree of Leo, we’re called to act from the heart, with inspiration and enthusiasm. Yet the planets (including ‘dwarf’ planets) and asteroids are all Water, Earth, or Air elements - no Fire anywhere.Read More
The Full Moon on October 24th is closely conjunct explosive Uranus, and opposed to retrograde Venus. It looks to be a very dynamic time in relationships!Read More
As Mercury and Venus meet in Scorpio today, a serious and deep - but not necessarily bad - conversation could be on the horizon. The Libra Sun will help us to maintain some perspective as we discuss, argue, and bargain with our significant others.Read More
