Sleeping Tiger: Mars in Taurus 2022

July 5, 2022

Mars enters Taurus on Jul 5, 2022, beginning a stay until late August. Mars in the sign of the bull thus colors our summer (in the Northern Hemisphere, at least). In Venus’ earthy home sign, Mars is sensual, sexual, and very direct in getting what he wants. While Taurus can be slow moving, Mars acts like a sleeping cat in the sign: rousing only when there’s something to do, but then acting swiftly.

And Mars will have a lot to do in the next seven weeks! Although the first half of his stay is not that eventful, things start to change in late July. The 26th is likely to be a significant day for relationships, as partnership asteroid Juno stations to retrograde in Pisces while Mercury squares Mars from Leo. As we reconsider our relationships, Mercury is looking for a bold and dramatic statement, while Mars wants to see some action. Words may not be enough - or too much - around this time.

A new moon, Jupiter station, and Mercury square Uranus awaits just two days later, so it will be hard to contain feelings, emotions, and words.

Then, on August 1st, Mars meets with Uranus. This aspect is bound to be volatile in many contexts, but relationships under stress are particularly likely to feel the restlessness and desire for change - any change - at this point. If things have been tense over the past week, this could be the time when things really ‘blow’. On the other hand, for those in a better place, there could be a desire to try something new. Singles may find interesting opportunities, too, but beware that decisions made in the heat of the moment may not sit well later on.

If things go a little too far in late July and earliest August, an opportunity for some repair work presents itself around August 2nd through the 5th, as Venus and Mars sextile each other and go on to make easy aspects to Juno. Apologies may be in order, or it may simply be time for a new beginning. You can talk things out, but actions will speak louder than words. For relationships that are just getting off the ground, this is an opportunity to move things along with relative ease (especially after the hot times of the previous week).

As Mars squares Saturn on the 7th of August, it could feel like decision time, especially as Venus opposes Pluto on the 9th. This is a great time to move forward on plans you’re sure about, but a drop of caution is called for if you’re still uncertain.

As Mars wraps up his stay in Taurus, he makes an easy sextile to Neptune on the 11th, opening up the possibility of turning fantasy into reality. This is also the day of the Aquarius Full Moon, so a party mood could prevail in some places.

If decisive action in relationship is what you’re looking for, mid-August has plenty of opportunities. Mars trines Pluto on the 14th, as the Sun opposes Saturn, then Pallas Athene and Mercury make easy aspects to Juno, while Venus trines her BFF Jupiter on the 18th. It’s certainly a recipe for action and an open expression of feelings.

Mars waves goodbye to Taurus and trods into Gemini on the 20th of August… and the action continues…
