Chiron in Aries — in Relationships

Imperfections are not inadequacies; they are reminders that we're all in this together.

Tomorrow, the centaur Chiron moves back into the sign of Aries, where it stays until 2027. This is pretty major, hence the longer than usual blog! Bear with me!

In mythology, Chiron was half human and half horse and in our birth chart, Chiron represents the humanity in all of us that is part civilized and part primal. Often it’s only in intimate relationships that we allow that more primal aspect of ourselves to be seen.

Rejected by his parents, Chiron was raised by the Sun god Apollo and was a teacher to the children of the gods. His skills included music, medicine and prophecy. As he travels in the sky through the signs of the zodiac, he is known as the bringer of wisdom, healing and insight.

Through no fault of his own, Chiron was accidentally struck in his thigh by a poisoned arrow, leaving him in pain. By transit, Chiron can also be associated with emotional or physical pain that comes out of the blue and feels unfair and inexplicable, both in our personal and our relationship life. In the myth, Chiron generously gifted his immortality to Prometheus, describing the unconditional love that we are all ultimately capable of, even within our personal human challenges.

Tomorrow is notable, as Chiron moving into the first sign of Aries represents the start of a new 51 year cycle of this unusual energy around the entire Zodiac. We have all reached the end of a 51 year cycle of old ways of engaging with pain, healing, medicine and learning. The last time we started a new cycle was in April 1968, so it’s worth thinking back to what was going on for you and/or for your family from ’68 – ’76.

Keep in mind that we first got a taster of this new cycle from May – September 2018! What was happening for you individually and in your relationships during those months?

As Chiron settles itself into Aries, opposite the sign of Libra, some of the core themes that are likely to arise in relationships include: self-empowerment and compromise, courage and balance, leadership and co-working, independence and interdependence, battles and conflict resolution, reaction and responding, impatience and tolerance, impulsiveness and contemplation…

Unlike the past 8 years, when Chiron was travelling through Pisces, this energy is fast and dynamic and its concern is with new beginnings, rather than mourning painful endings. Now it’s time to engage actively with integrating, healing and understanding our individuality, including our quirks and painful parts, so that we can engage in equal dynamic, fair, empowered and growth enhancing relationships with the people in our life. The expiration date has come for any trace of helpless victimhood! Time to replace it with courageous self-responsibility and personal accountability as we connect with the strong, spiritual, heart-centered inner warrior.

If Chiron is in Aries in your natal and/or composite relationship chart, you will experience your ‘Chiron Return’ at some stage over the next 8 years, individually and/or in your relationship. This is a powerful time to engage with and integrate the themes mentioned above and to gain insight into any unhelpful patterns within you that are preventing growth and joy. MG
